Live Oak Stability - Sitting in flood waters from Lake Pontchartrain

Montz, Louisiana

This is an area that has no flood protection levee from Lake Pontchartrain, so there were no levees to break. New Orleans and Jefferson stayed dry but water seeks its own level and had to go somewhere as it was being pushed in from the Gulf so this is where it went--WHERE THERE WAS NO LEVEE.

I'm just glad you made it through the hurricane safely. I hate to say this is a pretty image but it is with the reflections in the water. I know floods are bad. I wonder how many these old trees have been through.

I just looked up Montz. It sits closer to the Mississippi River than Lake Pontchartrain yet the flood waters are from the lake - holy cow! How are those new flood controls working down there?

one of the theorys as to what killed our 100+ year old elm tree is that a few years ago the seawall was built and the area where the tree stood no longer gets flooded with sea water...

Isn't it just crazy? i am so worried about my beautiful oaks because of the drought. This just shows how strong they are. they seem to be able to be there through it all.
