Eagles' Nest Still Intact

Louisiana

There are three eagles' nests that I monitor and photograph in the winter months. Two of them were destroyed in Hurricane Isaac, one at I-10 and I-310 and one in the swamp. They both were as huge as a small car but the powerful winds broke the trees and toppled the nests. This one survived.
The eagles are returning to begin their nesting season and I hope they choose trees in the same vicinity. The two missing ones had been there for at least a decade.

It's amazing that this one survived, hope the others have time to rebuild. Such a shame to lose them after all those years.

House builders should look at how the nest is built and take notes!

They are creatures of habit, hopefully they well change their nesting location....

Hopefully this one will support a thriving eagle family in the coming months.

What a swell opportunity you had with the Eagles and their nests. Hope the two will rebuild their nest where you can again observe them.

I'm happy to see that this one is intact. Hopefully the others will stay in the area and you can watch the next generation begin.

Not surprised they came down, they weigh 2000 pounds or more and that's a lot of weight for a tree to hold up in heavy winds! We can only hope they will rebuild in a place you can get to so you will be able photograph them!
